Through the thoughtful and generous donation of Mr. Daryl Wofford, Two Bridges Music gratefully received a grand piano which was moved into the community room at 82 Rutgers Slip on Friday July 28th. The piano is a Baldwin Model M (5’2”) in excellent state and condition. This grand piano accompanied Mr. Wofford throughout his childhood and later life. His mother Lila Linzer, who attended Juilliard, received it as a wedding gift from her father in 1950. The piano first resided in Mr. Wofford’s childhood home in Roslyn Heights, NY. Later it accompanied his family to their new home in Manhattan. After the recent passing of Lila Linzer this past January, Mr. Wofford wished to find a new place for his mother’s piano that would continue its story and benefit the people around it. Lila Linzer was an educator for nursery school children, an author and a musician. Mr. Wofford says his mother would be delighted to know what is happening with her piano and adds: “I hope the piano will bring joy to other people and enhance their lives”.

In inauguration of the instrument, Two Bridges Music will hold its upcoming Two Bridges Music student’s end-of-summer recital on the newly received piano. The inaugural concert and student recital will take place on Sunday, August 13th, 6 pm at the Goldie Chu Community Room in 82 Rutgers Slip. The evening will also feature a brief jazz performance by the Zach Lapidus Piano Trio and a reception with snacks and light refreshments will follow.
